Roy Horn, of famed performance duo Siegfried and Roy, has tested positive for the coronavirus.
Horn, 75, is “currently responding well to treatment,” his publicist said in a statement to ABC News.
He and Siegfried Fischbacher “send positive wishes to everyone impacted by the pandemic,” the statement said.
The illusionists were Las Vegas staples for decades, known for their acts involving white lions and white tigers.
In 2003, Horn suffered a career-ending injury when Mantacore, a 400-pound Siberian tiger, attacked him during a live performance at the Mirage hotel-casino.
They stepped back onstage on March 1, 2009, for a benefit show for the Cleveland Clinic’s Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas that they said raised $14 million.
In an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America” last August, the performers said they had made peace with the mauling incident.
“I really don’t miss it,” Siegfried said. “We have been on stage in Vegas just by themselves for 40 years on stage, you know? And we had the most successful show in the history of Las Vegas anyway.”
Roy, who has continued to work on his recovery, said he has no reluctance with the tigers after the accident, adding that he is “very” content and happy.
