Singer Sia opened up to fans this week about the state of her health, revealing that she suffers from “chronic pain” due to a neurological disease.
“Hey, I’m suffering with chronic pain, a neurological disease, ehlers danlos and I just wanted to say to those of you suffering from pain, whether physical or emotional, I love you, keep going,” the songwriter wrote on Friday. “Life is F—king hard. Pain is demoralizing, and you’re not alone.”
Commonly referred to as EDS, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome weakens the connective tissue of the body, and often results in loosening of joints, thinning skin and weakened blood vessels, according to WebMD. The “classical” type of the disease occurs in 1 in 20,000-40,000 people.
The songstress, 43, previously opened up about her health issues to Billboard in 2013, sharing that she was once addicted to prescription meds while suffering from alcoholism.
“[I] got seriously addicted to Vicodin and Oxycodone, and I was always a drinker but I didn’t know I was an alcoholic. I was really unhappy being an artist and I was getting sicker and sicker.”
Sia celebrated her sobriety with a Twitter post last year, writing, “Eight years sober today. I love you, keep going. You can do it.”
