Kate Beckinsale defends Chrissy Teigen, says she once lost a baby at 20 weeks pregnant

Kate Beckinsale came forward with a tragic story of pregnancy loss to defend Chrissy Teigen.

After Teigen, 34, heartbreakingly announced that she and husband John Legend lost their baby Jack after a difficult pregnancy, many criticized her for posting black-and-white photos from their hospital room. On Instagram, Beckinsale, 47, revealed that years ago, she also lost a baby well into her pregnancy and said there is no right way to handle the “unimaginable.”

“I’ve noticed people criticizing @chrissyteigen for sharing deeply intimate photos of the loss of her baby. As if there’s some protocol during soul-scouring calamity that, if not observed, emboldens people who do not know her or her family to say how she should be handling the unimaginable,” Beckinsale wrote on social media.

“Years ago, I lost a baby at 20 weeks,” Beckinsale revealed. “I had managed to keep my pregnancy quiet and I absolutely collapsed inside and no one would have known. There is grief, shame and shock so often that come with an experience like this, plus the heartbreak of your body continuing, after the loss, to act as if it had a child to nurture.”

Beckinsale shared that her breast milk had come in despite there being “no one to feed.” The “Serendipity” actress called the experience the “loneliest, most soul destroying period of time, particularly if you are not in the position of having an emotionally connected, supportive partner like Chrissy has.”

Beckinsale, who shares daughter Lily Sheen with ex Michael Sheen, called Teigen’s photos an “honour,” as they allowed people to share in the famous family’s grief. She ended her lengthy post with a thank-you message to Teigen for being so open and honest about her family’s tragedy.

“Thank you @chrissyteigen for making sure it is abundantly clear how devastating this is, and how life changing it can be without support,” she wrote. “Let’s let the grieving decide what’s right for them. Send support or keep quiet. This is a really hard time to bear. Blessings and hugs to all x.”

Teigen’s mom, Vilailuck Teigen, also posted a tribute to her late grandson, saying her “heart aches” at the loss.
