Kylie Jenner’s ‘Stormi’ trademarking spree thwarted by clothing company

Inveterate trademark addict Kylie Jenner — who even filed to trademark the phrase “rise and shine” after a video of her caterwauling it at her kid caused a stir online — may finally be thwarted in her attempts to stake a legal claim to the entire English language.

As any responsible mother would, Jenner has applied to scoop up a bunch of trademarks related to her 2-year-old daughter’s name, Stormi, including Stormi World (perhaps to safeguard the infant’s inevitable theme-park empire). But a New Orleans clothing company has lawyered up to prevent Jenner from grabbing it.

Business Moves Consulting — which trademarked “Stormi Couture” about a month after the baby was born in 2018 — has filed an opposition to Jenner’s application, claiming that it’s likely to confuse their own customers, and because they doubt that Jenner actually intends to use it anyway — or as they put it, she has “no bona fide intent to use mark in commerce for identified goods or services.”

This isn’t the first time the company has done battle over a trademark-happy celebrity’s child’s name. DJ Khaled sued it in 2018, claiming that it was selling clothing using his son Asahd’s name.

Meanwhile, Jenner filed for trademarks on “Kylie Body” and “Kylie Body by Kylie Jenner” on Valentine’s Day. She already owns trademarks on “Kybow,” “Kyliner,” “Glitter Eyes,” “Kylie Baby,” “Lip Kit,” “Kylie Museum,” “Kylie Kon” and more.
