Alec Baldwin doesn’t believe college admissions scammers should go to jail

As Felicity Huffman serves a 14-day-sentence for her role in the national college admissions scandal, Alec Baldwin is speaking out in her defense.

The “30 Rock” actor recently tweeted his take on the situation, saying he doesn’t believe “anyone involved in the college fraud cases should go to prison. That includes past cases as well.”

He went on, “Community service, fines, yes. But prison time, no. My heart goes out to Felicity, Bill Macy and their family.”

Followers soon made note of Baldwin’s “tone deaf” suggestions, reminding the celeb that fines do nothing to deter the wealthy from wrongdoing.

“Community service is better,” replied the father of five. “The demonization of wealth in this country is mind blowing. A country built on both freedoms and commerce. Now, all success is scrutinized. Merely to succeed, especially financially, invites scrutiny, judgment, abuse.”

Baldwin’s followers vehemently disagreed with the notion that the wealthy suffer because of their affluence.

“I am sorry to my daughter Sophie, my daughter Georgia, my husband William. I have betrayed them,” Huffman said during her sentencing. The 56-year-old mother of two pleaded guilty to charges that she paid college fixer William “Rick” Singer $15,000 disguised as a “purported charitable contribution” to boost elder daughter Sophia’s test scores.
