A person in the audience of Broadway show “Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune” snapped a photo of star Audra McDonald onstage when she appeared naked in the play’s opening sex scene with Michael Shannon.
“To whoever it was in the audience that took a flash photo during our nude scene today: Not cool. Not cool at all,” the horrified six-time Tony winner tweeted after the show on Sunday. The Terrence McNally play famously opens with full-frontal nudity and simulated sex.
A rep for the production told Page Six of the incident: “There is a no-photo policy . . . In terms of normal process, if someone is spotted taking a picture or video, an usher or house management staff member will ask them to erase the photos/videos.”
Then the disruptive fotog is “asked to show their ‘deleted’ folder and empty it so there is no record of it still on the phone. If they refuse to hand over their camera, they are asked to leave.”
The rep didn’t say whether the nude shot of McDonald was erased, but added, “The ushers are also always on the lookout for cameras.”
It’s not the first time that Broadway has battled fans snapping nude pictures of stars onstage in the digital era.
Page Six revealed in 2013 that audience members were snapping shots of “Game of Thrones” Mother of Dragons Emilia Clarke when she appeared nude getting into a bubble bath in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”
The situation led to the theater adding security during performances.
Either way, any other creeps won’t have long to get an eyeful of McDonald, as “Frankie and Johnny” ends its acclaimed run on Sunday.
It’s been veteran performer McDonald’s first-ever scene in the buff.
She’s previously told Page Six: “This is my first time [being nude onstage], so I was scared.”
But “once the show is going, you don’t think about it — you’re playing the character. It’s an important part of the story.”
The show was even the first to hire an intimacy coordinator to help the stars get comfortable in their sex-charged performances.
