Even without a formal host, Whoopi Goldberg is ‘game’ for the Oscars

Academy Awards chiefs have weeks to find a host for the Oscars, after Kevin Hart finally ruled himself out on Wednesday in a “GMA” interview. Industry insiders now hope the awards show will stick to a revolving cast of hosts, while Page Six has learned four-time host Whoopi Goldberg has thrown her hat into the ring.

The Oscars take place Feb. 24, with nominations announced Jan. 22.

A source told us: “Everyone is hoping they’ll do a series of presenters and have no formal host.”

But the source added there’s buzz behind the scenes that “Whoopi really is game to do it though.”

Goldberg said on “The View” last month after Hart initially stepped down amid controversy: “If you want to go hostless, that’s your prerogative. I think it’s a dumb idea. People need someone to take them through things. I think it needs to be somebody who loves the films.”

She admitted, “Now, I realize I may not be anybody’s first choice,” and added of her own polarizing persona, “I’m also problematic!”
