A longtime pal of Jeff Bezos’ new girlfriend, Lauren Sanchez, offered Page Six a blunt assessment of the situation: “Jeff Bezos is seriously stupid if he’s thinking of marrying her. He’s already seriously stupid for giving up half his fortune for her.”
The former friend said that they’d had a front-row seat for much of Sanchez’s colorful — and turbulent — romantic history, and thinks the Amazon billionaire is in for an interesting ride.
By our count, for example, TV personality turned helicopter pilot Sanchez has been engaged to at least four different people.
Bezos is divorcing his wife of 25 years, MacKenzie, and is now seeing Sanchez, who is still married to Hollywood superagent Patrick Whitesell.
The insider — who stopped being friends with Sanchez — said that when Sanchez was an intern at a Los Angeles TV station, she got engaged to sports broadcaster Rory Markas, who went on to be a play-by-play announcer for the Angels baseball team. The source said that Sanchez left Markas when she changed jobs. (Markas died of a heart attack in 2010.)
Meanwhile, the source added that when Sanchez later got engaged to “NYPD Blue” star Henry Simmons and the two moved into a house in Manhattan Beach, Calif., friends were surprised when Sanchez started dating then-Endeavor agent Whitesell shortly after.
Then, we’re told, when Sanchez was preparing to marry Whitesell, she called another former flame, ex-NFL player Tony Gonzalez — with whom she has a son — to say that she would call off the wedding if Gonzalez wanted to get back together with her. A rep for Gonzalez said this isn’t correct.
Another former football player, Anthony Miller — to whom she was engaged for a year and a half — said on Sunday that Sanchez cheated on him, which sources close to Sanchez denied.
Reps for Sanchez, Simmons and Gonzalez didn’t get back to us.
