Discovery boss hosts luncheon for new space flicks

On Monday, the same day NASA’s InSight lander set down on Mars, Discovery boss David Zaslav hosted a luncheon for Rory Kennedy’s new doc, “Above and Beyond: NASA’s Journey to Tomorrow,” as well as Damien Chazelle’s space drama “First Man.”

We hear the two films’ directors first met last month at the Hamptons International Film Festival.

“They became fast friends once they realized that they lived a block away from each other in Malibu,” a pal said. (Both were evacuated during the area’s recent wildfires.)

When Kennedy mentioned the coincidence to Zaslav, the CEO hatched a plan to toast the two NASA films together.

The filmmakers were joined by “First Man” star Claire Foy for a Lotos Club Q&A moderated by Turner Classic Movies whiz Dave Karger.

Guests included Tina Brown, Paula Zahn and Rosanna Scotto.

Later that day, “Dear Evan Hansen’s” Tony-winning composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul hosted a Broadway screening for “First Man.”
