Macaulay Culkin just wants to be home alone at Christmas

Macaulay Culkin would rather be home alone than go out during the holidays.

“I definitely don’t [go out],” Culkin, 37, said on “The Ellen Show” on Monday. “It’s my season. It’s Macaulay season. I try to go out less and less around that time of year.”

He also doesn’t partake in viewing “Home Alone” movies during the holiday season (or any other season).

“I don’t really watch them all that often. We did a 15-year anniversary DVD commentary, I realized I hadn’t seen it in like 15 years, whereas [director] Chris Columbus watched it the night before like a responsible human being,” he recalled. “It’s background radiation at Christmastime.”

“I’ve had people who’ve wanted to watch it with me, which is both flattering and creepy,” he added. “When I’m watching it, I’m remembering that day on the set, like, ‘Oh, I was hiding my Pepsi behind the couch.’ I can’t watch it the same way other people can.”

The actor-turned-Oscar commentator says that, especially near Christmas, strangers will approach him asking him to put his hands on his face and scream the way he did in the iconic 1990 holiday flick — to no avail.

Culkin explained that a big part of the fascination with him to this day is due to the fact that his face pretty much looks almost exactly the same as he did when he was in grade school.

“How can a person look too much like himself? It’s a curse and a blessing,” he said. “I can get into any restaurant I want without a reservation, but while I’m there everyone’s staring at me. And they’re all going, ‘Aww!’”
