Kate Middleton’s post-baby look is another tribute to Princess Diana

For Kate Middleton‘s first public appearance after giving birth on Monday, the 36-year-old Duchess chose yet another outfit that pays homage to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.

Her post-baby look, a bright red Jenny Packham shift with a white lace collar, is strikingly similar to a dress that Diana, Princess of Wales, wore in 1983 during an official visit to Canada with her husband, Prince Charles. From both dresses’ knee-length hemlines, cropped sleeves, and white collars to the shared choice of pearl earrings to the sapphire engagement ring passed from one royal to the other, there’s a lot the two looks have in common.

This isn’t the first time the Duchess of Cambridge has paid tribute to Princess Diana post-delivery: After she gave birth to Prince George in July 2013, many were struck by how Middleton’s polka-dotted blue dress (also by Jenny Packham) resembled the one Diana wore after having Prince William in 1982.

Prince William and Middleton‘s third child faced the world for the first time Monday afternoon. The happy couple showed off their latest addition in front of St. Mary’s Hospital in London. The new prince joins brother Prince George, 4, and sister Princess Charlotte, 2.

He is fifth in line for the throne.
