Tiger Woods and Justin Timberlake will soon have a private club to hang out in downtown.
The Nexus Club, the brainchild of British billionaire Joe Lewis, will open May 1 on the seventh floor of the office building at 100 Church St.
“Scores of workers are rushing to get it ready on time,” one insider told me.
The build-out of the 34,000-square-foot space — designed by architect Morris Adjmi and featuring restaurants, bars, a gym and a spa — is costing $25 million. The lower floor will feature golf simulators.
Part of the Nexus Luxury Collection, the club is an offshoot of other resorts Lewis owns in Florida, Argentina and the Bahamas, where his crown jewel is the 600-acre Albany, which boasts such shareholders as Woods, Timberlake and Ernie Els.
“If you buy a place at one of the resorts, you get a membership in the club in New York,” said one New Yorker who’s mulling whether to join. Some 289 families are said to be signed up already.
Lewis, 82, started out with a West End catering business, Tavistock, and then made a fortune in currency speculation. Now he has 200 companies in 15 countries, and a $1 billion art collection that includes Arturo Di Modica’s iconic Wall Street symbol, “Charging Bull.”
“The club will be a place for members to dine and socialize, but it’s aimed at families, so there are kids rooms, and children are members until they are 40,” a source said.
