‘The Notebook’ musical is heading to Broadway

Bring on the tissues — “The Notebook” is heading to Broadway.

The beloved 2004 film based on the Nicholas Sparks best seller that put together sizzling couple Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling is becoming a musical.

“I’m writing a musical and the musical is ‘The Notebook,’ ” declared a shrieking Ingrid Michaelson, who co-hosted the “Today” show Thursday morning alongside Hoda Kotb.

The New York-based singer-songwriter and actor is writing the music and lyrics for the adaptation of the Nick Cassavetes film about a rich city girl, Allie, who falls in love with a simple Southerner, Noah, in the 1940s, but the couple are foiled by mean parents determined to keep the young lovers apart.

It’s told through the lens of an older Allie, who’s suffering from advanced Alzheimer’s disease.

Along with “This Is Us” writer-producer Bekah Brunstetter, who will write the book for the musical, Michaelson said she’s been working on songs for the past year and a half. “The idea of undying love and loss and memory — I can’t stop writing them,” Michaelson gushed.

Apparently, this collaboration has been a long time coming.

The “Girls Chase Boys” songstress shared on Twitter in 2017 how much one scene still resonates with her: “The kiss in the rain in The Notebook hits me right in the ovaries.”

And it 2016, Michaelson spoke about how one zeitgeist production stoked her dreams of writing a Broadway musical.

“Everyone who walks out of ‘Hamilton’ says ‘I’m gonna change the world,'” the Staten Island-born singer-songwriter said. “But this just floored me. It changed my DNA.”
