When Don Rickles attends your birthday, you can’t expect the toast to be complimentary.
“No one had a kind word to say about me,” comedian David Steinberg told us of his Beverly Hills birthday dinner Saturday night at E Baldi, “and that’s what made it so special.”
Guests included Rickles with wife Barbara, Bob Newhart, Martin Short, veteran David Letterman producer Peter Lassally, Jimmy Kimmel producer Jill Leiderman and her husband, “Big Bang Theory” producer Rob Cohen, as well as Steinberg’s wife, Robyn Todd.
When we asked Steinberg, who hosts the Showtime series “Inside Comedy,” to verify his age for us, the comic coyly cracked, “I’m 69 — but with a wind-chill factor, I could be 72.”
