Interior designer Nicky Haslam hosted a select screening of “Effie Gray,” written by Emma Thompson, at London’s Soho Hotel.
Emma’s husband, Greg Wise, stars in the movie as John Ruskin, the Victorian art critic who wed teenage bride Effie, played by Dakota Fanning.
The marriage was never consummated, and Effie took Ruskin to court for nonconsummation and won a divorce, causing a huge scandal.
Effie then married their mutual friend, artist John Everett Millais, who is played by Tom Sturridge in the film, which opens in the US on Nov. 7.
Others at Wednesday’s screening included director Mike Leigh, actor Stanley Tucci with wife Felicity Blunt and art dealer Edmondo di Robilant.
