Mick Jagger celebrates James Brown movie ‘Get on Up’

Mick Jagger and Dan Aykroyd were in a celebratory mood after screening their James Brown biopic “Get On Up” with producer Brian Grazer in New York.

Jagger is a producer on the movie, which opens Aug. 1 and stars Aykroyd, Octavia Spencer and Chadwick Boseman as the legendary Godfather of Soul. Jagger, Aykroyd and Grazer hosted a screening of the movie for the academy on Thursday at Lighthouse Guild.

During a following question and answer session, Aykroyd told stories of how he and Brown opened five House of Blues venues together, appeared in movies including two Blues Brother’s flicks and joked how Brown even appeared in “one of my greatest movies,” the famously panned “Doctor Detroit.”

Later, the trio, along with Spencer and director Tate Taylor, headed for dinner at a private room at Cafe Boulud.

Jagger said in an interview with “Today’s” Matt Lauer he’d had a “difficult year” after the death of L’Wren Scott, “But I got back into it by working on touring with the Stones in Europe, and doing other things, including this great movie.”
