Anne Hathaway didn’t want to break her diet when a scene in her new movie, “The Intern” with Robert De Niro, required her to nibble on chocolate cake.
Spies said Hathaway, who has been vegan in the past as well as gluten-free, was filming “What Women Want” director Nancy Meyers’ new project in New York when, “The script called for her to take a bite of chocolate cake.”
The spy added Hathaway wanted a healthier alternative, and a “prop department production assistant” was sent scurrying for cakes from bakery Vegan Divas on First Avenue.
“They put in two orders for three-layer chocolate ganache cakes,” said a source.
The film stars Hathaway as the hard-charging head of an Internet company who hires retiree De Niro as her unlikely intern.
But a rep for the stick-thin “Les Misérables” Oscar winner insisted of the cake incident, “That’s completely false as Anne is no longer a vegan.”
When we asked if Hathaway avoids gluten, the rep admitted, “Not that I’m aware of, but she probably tries to avoid it when possible.”
