Failed marriage to ‘Deal or No Deal’ model broke Andrew Stern

Andrew Stern, the husband of “Deal or No Deal” model Katie Cleary who shot himself in the head at a firing range, was “broken” over his failed marriage, a friend told the MailOnline.

“He made it clear that he would do anything to make her happy … He saw that he put all he could into his marriage and his wife, and when she wanted more, it devastated him,” another friend, Pace Lattin, told the website.

Stern, 40, committed suicide at a shooting range in the San Fernando Valley on Sunday — but it wasn’t the first time he tried to end his life, sources told gossip website TMZ.

Just days after filing for divorce in early April, the distressed Stern visited his parents in Ohio, the sources said. While he was there, police responded to a call from Stern’s mother, who told the cops her son was either going to end it all in a garage with the car engine on — or at a local firing range, TMZ reports.

Police showed up at the range but were told employees had refused Stern entry because he appeared unstable, sources claimed.

Cops later showed up at Stern’s parents’ house and took him to a hospital for a mental health assessment, the sources said. A month later, cops returned to the house to check up on Stern at the urging of his doctor, according to TMZ.

Stern told the authorities that he’d been having suicidal thoughts ever since Cleary left him, the sources said.

A friend told the Daily Mail that Stern knew his marriage to his “dream girl” was failing.

“Andrew changed at the beginning of the year,” the source said. “He worked more and socialized less. He began investing even more money and more time into his charity and fundraising work … He got sad. Sadder.”

Last month, photos emerged of Cleary cozying up to actors Leonardo DiCaprio, 39, and Adrian Grenier, 37, in Cannes.

The friend added that Stern was aware he might not be able to hold onto her.

“She’s too pretty. She’s just too pretty. And she’s just too charismatic and affable and kind that Andrew knew he couldn’t keep her to himself,” the source said.

Cleary’s father, Thomas, who lives just outside Chicago, told MailOnline his daughter is grieving over the loss of her husband.

“This is a terrible loss for my daughter Katie and obviously she is devastated,” he said. “We are all grieving for her and for my son-in-law.”

The pair separated on April 3 after less than four years of marriage.
