A delectable ‘battle of the sandwiches’ took place Saturday in the Hamptons when “The Sandwich King” Jeff Mauro battled Page Six reporter and “300 Sandwiches” blog author Stephanie Smith in a “SandWar” at Red Stixs in Water Mill.
Mauro cooked up a mouthwatering mortadella and fig melt, while Smith, with an artful kitchen assist from fiancé Eric Schulte, brought out a marvelous fried mahi mahi slider with jalapeño-cilantro emulsion, pickled cucumber and red cabbage slaw.
Guest judges Jill Martin and Geoffrey Zakarian called it a draw, but the crowd, including chef Marc Murphy, Katie Lee, Eric Villency and Latin crooner Henry Santos, gave the top vote to the Food Network’s Mauro.
Proceeds went to the American Cancer Society.
