Bethann Hardison, the 1970s model turned model manager, was quick with a quip after winning the 2014 CFDA Founders Award for her efforts to diversify the runway.
Naomi Campbell, Iman and Tyson Beckford threw a midnight dinner for her afterward at new hot spot Beautique. Guests included Joan Smalls, Prabal Gurung, Tracy Reese, Liya Kebede, Shala Monroque and Thelma Golden.
When CFDA President Diane von Furstenberg toasted the woman of the hour, surrounded by all those beautiful black faces, she said, “I hope I come back black in my next life.”
Hardison replied: “Wrong! Everyone knows you’re already black!”
