Michelle Obama wrote a letter to say she’s a fan of “A Raisin in the Sun” after she and President Obama saw the show in April.
On Tuesday, Julianne Moore read a note from the first lady praising the cast’s LaTanya Richardson Jackson at a party for the Tony nominee at Lady Mendl’s.
“I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to see its revival,” Michelle wrote. “Barack and I both agree your portrayal of Mama stole the show.”
Jackson, who became friendly with the Obamas when she and husband Samuel L. Jackson held fund-raisers for them, said that when the president came to the show, “They [had] the dogs, a lot of security,” even backstage.
But then she realized, “I’m not supposed to be telling that. Never mind.” Samuel told us the Obamas are a “fun-loving couple just like everybody else.”
Also at the party: Ellen Barkin, Star Jones and fellow “Raisin” Tony nominees Sophie Okonedo and Anika Noni Rose.
