Charlie Hunnam heartbroken over ‘Fifty Shades’ role

Fifty Shades of Grey” fans aren’t the only ones heartbroken over Charlie Hunnam’s unexpected exit from the film.

“I felt like I had an interesting take on that character and felt like I could have done a good job of playing Christian Grey, otherwise I wouldn’t have taken it on in the first place,” the 34-year-old told Life & Style.

“When you put the time into something like that and a character comes alive in your mind, it’s heartbreaking not to be able to play him … It was definitely kind of heartbreaking to say goodbye to that character and not bring it to life,” he continued.

Hunnam’s departure was the result of scheduling conflicts with the film and “Sons of Anarchy.”

Irish actor Jamie Dornan, 32, will now play the kinky character and Dakota Johnson, 24, is still set to play leading lady Anastasia Steele.

The film adaptation is set to hit theaters in February 2015.
