Spitzer’s gal pal Lis Smith back in the political game

Eliot Spitzer’s romantic sidekick Lis Smith has re-entered New York’s bare-knuckled political fray. And she has a new target: knocking off veteran Harlem Rep. Charles Rangel.

The Post’s Carl Campanile reports Smith has emerged as a communications adviser to State Sen. Adriano Espaillat, who is challenging Rangel in the June 24 Democratic primary for Congress.

Acerbic Smith wasted no time attacking the 83-year-old incumbent. She blasted Rangel for trying to “prop up” his campaign by attaching himself to President Obama.

“Here’s the truth: Not only has President Obama refused to support Congressman Rangel’s candidacy, he even called ethics allegations against Rangel ‘very troubling’ and suggested that Rangel should step down because of them,” Smith said in a statement.

She served as spokeswoman for Bill de Blasio’s mayoral campaign until The Post reported that Smith was involved with the then-married Spitzer, who is now divorced.

Given the millions Spitzer must now pay Silda, perhaps it was wise for Smith to go back to work.
