Lee Daniels cancels Tribeca Film Festival event

Busy director Lee Daniels has canceled an upcoming appearance at the Tribeca Film Festival — where he was scheduled to talk with Robin Roberts — because, his rep tells us, he’s tied up in LA editing the pilot for his new show, “Empire.”

The series set in the hip-hop world is written by hot “Hunger Games: Mockingjay” screenwriter Danny Strong and stars Gabourey Sidibe and Terrence Howard. Speakers participating in Tribeca panels include Ron Howard, Mike Tyson, Aaron Sorkin and (still in New York!) Alec Baldwin.

The film fest kicks off Wednesday with a screening of Nas doc “Time Is Illmatic,” followed by a performance by the rapper.

The festival runs through April 27.
