Baz Luhrmann took a private moment to praise the stars of David Byrne’s pop musical “Here Lies Love” after the show opened Thursday.
The “Great Gatsby” director was among 200 — along with “Book of Mormon” co-creator Matt Stone and “Girls” star Andrew Rannells — to pack the Public Theater for Byrne and Fatboy Slim’s musical about Imelda Marcos.
Luhrmann later arrived at a Gallow Green after-party to tell the cast how much he enjoyed their performances.
“It was intense and they were in awe,” said a spy.
Director Alex Timbers will next take the interactive show — where stages unpredictably spin and the audience engages in choreographed Filipino disco dancing — to London’s National Theatre.
