Gov. Andrew Cuomo is winning over top Republican donors.
He was feted at a “Republicans for Cuomo” event Tuesday hosted by John and Betty Levin at the Pierre.
According to a witness, attendees mingling with the Democratic politician included top GOP power players such as Larry Rockefeller, Phil Geier, former Ambassador to Denmark John Loeb and Sharon Handler Loeb, a board member of the Republican Majority for Choice.
Also there: Bill Heyman, Morris Offit, John Catsimatidis, Ambassador Charles Gargano and Andy Sabin. Tickets went from $5,000-$50,000, and the show of force from donors doesn’t bode well for Cuomo’s Republican opponent in the upcoming governor’s race.
One commenter explained many in the Republican business community are prepared to step across party lines to “back a winner,” while Cuomo also triumphs by draining money that would otherwise go to his challenger Rob Astorino.
