‘Daily Show’ co-creator has a buzzworthy idea

Whirlpool needs to make sex toys, according to “The Daily Show” co-creator Lizz Winstead. The appliance giant was one of the sponsors at Thursday night’s sixth annual PFLAG Straight for Equality Awards at the Marriott.

“If Whirlpool made a vibrator they could call it ‘Who needs Amana?’ ” cracked emcee Winstead. The evening honored Ally Sheedy, Ruth Messinger and David Dinkins for their contributions to gay awareness.

Bawdy Paula Cooper art exec Sara Friedlander said “showing a little skin in this room probably wouldn’t do any good.” And Winstead’s “The Daily Show” roots kept the political barbs coming all night.

About the Russian snubbing of gay athletes, she said President Obama “wanted to get ‘Ru Paul’s Drag Race’ in the Olympics.”
