I’m not Catholic, and I do like an occasional beer. But I will no longer order Heineken or Guinness.
Even before the Catholic League’s Bill Donohue called for a boycott of the beers that boycotted the St. Patrick’s Day parade, I decided to withhold my patronage from the panderers.
The parade is meant to honor St. Patrick. Gays are welcome at the parade; they just aren’t allowed to advertise themselves as such with banners and flags. There are multiple gay pride parades where they can do that.
The corporate brains behind Heineken and Guinness pulled their sponsorship saying they support inclusiveness and diversity. But, in fact, they are supporting homogeneity — they want every parade to be like every other parade — and every parade should have gay groups.
From now on, toast St. Patrick with a Becks.
