A mysterious death in Aspen is the talk of New York society.

The body of Nancy Pfister, 57, was found late last month in a closet of her home — and a couple who’d allegedly rented the house while she traveled in Australia was arrested Monday in the case.
Nancy’s father, Art Pfister, developed Buttermilk Mountain ski area in 1958, and her grandfather Robert Hass was a partner at Random House.
“These people were the bluebloods of Aspen,” said a resort regular. “Everybody who’s headed to Aspen is talking about this.”
Pfister graduated from Brooklyn’s Pratt Institute and was in the inner circle of writer Hunter S. Thompson, as well as Hollywood stars who frequented the ski mecca.

“She’d been one of the golden girls of Aspen, seriously into the party scene [in her youth],” recalled a source. “She hung out with the Kennedys, Jack Nicholson, Cher, Michael Douglas.” The source said Pfister was even once briefly engaged to Douglas.
“She managed to befriend royalty and service industry workers alike,” wrote the Aspen Daily News.
On Monday, a couple who allegedly rented her home was arrested in connection with Pfister’s death, which cops have said was suspicious without commenting on a cause.
