Dan Loeb outraged after gossip book’s party planned for 15 CPW

Famously fiery hedge fund hotshot Dan Loeb flew off the handle after hearing that a party celebrating a new book gossiping about wealthy residents of 15 Central Park West will be held at an apartment inside the building, where he owns a $45 million penthouse.

Loeb was annoyed to learn this week that a bash to celebrate the release of Michael Gross’ “House of Outrageous Fortune,” about the city’s most exclusive address, is actually being held there on April 7.

Page Six has learned that Loeb fired off letters to building management after discovering syndicated political cartoonist Ranan Lurie, 81, is hosting the party three floors below with his broker wife, Tamar, at their apartment, 36D.

A source told us: “Dan Loeb is furious that the party for the book, which gossips about the building’s residents and staff, is actually being held inside the building. He has written letters to management and fellow residents expressing his outrage and saying the party must be canceled.”

And another source added, “Lurie had better hope he doesn’t run into Loeb in the elevator or lobby. He’s not the kind of enemy you want as a neighbor.”

Loeb’s building is also home to Sting and Trudie Styler, Denzel Washington, steel magnate Leroy Schecter, Google’s Omid Kordestani and Goldman Sachs chairman and CEO Lloyd Blankfein, who Gross claims got 100 hate-mail letters a day during the financial crisis.

The book also dishes on Loeb, describing how he clashed with Carl Icahn over a penthouse at 15 CPW, and while Icahn tried to bargain on the price, Loeb swooped in and outbid his rival by paying the full $45 million asking price.

A blurb for the book also promises that Gross “drilled past its limestone facade to ferret out the stories Fifteen’s fathers and its residents don’t want told.”

Loeb did not comment Thursday night, while Gross told us, “This is news to me,” and declined to discuss the party, which is also hosted by broker Wendy J. Sarasohn.

Calls to Lurie’s apartment were not answered.
