Alan Cumming buys $4.65M townhouse in East Village

Tony winner Alan Cumming — who wowed critics with his “Macbeth” on Broadway, and plays savvy political operator Eli Gold on “The Good Wife” — has just bought an East Village townhouse on East Ninth Street with his commercial illustrator spouse, Grant Shaffer, for $4.65 million, reports The Post’s Jennifer Gould Keil.

The couple married in Britain six years ago and had another ceremony in New York last year.

Their charming four-story, 20-foot-wide house, which had an asking price of $5.1 million, has seven bedrooms, four baths and a “forest-like garden,” according to the listing, along with a balcony and roof deck.

There’s also a French country chef’s kitchen with 19th-century flooring, plus city approval to build at least two more stories.

Let’s hope Cumming stays true to character and maintains the integrity of the structure, unlike his East Village neighbor David Schwimmer, who infamously blasted his historic townhouse to smithereens to build something shiny and new.
