With all the talk of Baz Luhrmann‘s “The Great Gatsby” remake, let’s not forget an earlier version. The Gold Coast International Film Festival, launching this June on the North Shore of Long Island (on which F. Scott Fitzgerald’s fictional East and West Egg were based), is honoring Bruce Dern, who played Tom Buchanan opposite Robert Redford‘s Jay Gatsby in the 1974 film. Dern will be given the Legend Award, celebrating his long and diverse career, ranging from “Gatsby” to HBO’s “Big Love.” Dern stars in Francis Ford Coppola‘s “Twixt Now and Sunrise,” due out later this year.
