Kate Middleton to give first speech

Kate Middleton is known for smiling and waving, but not so much for speaking. Now, the Duchess of Cambridge has scheduled her first public speech for March 19.

People reports that the Duchess will give her first public address at the opening of a children’s hospice facility, The Treehouse, run by one of the charities she is a patron of, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.

The Duchess will tour the facilities and meet the staff, as well as talk to some of the children in the care of the organization. The Duchess will give her speech before planting a tree to commemorate her visit.

While Prince William is away on a military mission in the Falkland Islands, it has been a period of firsts for his new royal wife.

The Duchess made her solo debut, stepping out with grandmother-in-law Queen Elizabeth and step-mother Camilla Parker Bowles for tea at Fortnum & Mason. The three made the appearance to celebrate the 305-year-old store renaming their restaurant The Diamond Jubilee Tea Station in honor of Queen Elizabeth’s 60th year of rule.

On March 17th, The Duchess will make her first solo military appearance, pinning shamrocks on members of the Irish Guards, with whom Prince William holds the honorary rank of Colonel.
