Zac Efron confesses to condom snafu

Zac Efron has admitted that it was in fact a condom that fell from his pocket on the red carpet of children’s film “The Lorax” on Feb. 18.

This morning on “Today,” Zac Efron was grilled by Matt Lauer about the shiny, square object that fell from his pocket onto the carpet, causing the “High School Musical” actor to say, “Oh my god,” and turn around in nervous laughter.

“I did, I did,” Efron said, confirming the widely-circulated report. “I never really had a pocket-checking policy prior to going onto the red carpet before, but now we’ve fully instated one.”

When Lauer stuttered over the word “condom,” Efron joked, “That was really hard for you to say.”

“I’ll give you credit,” said Lauer. “Better to be safe than sorry.”

“That’s a great message to add to the many messages of the film,” replied Efron, who voices a 12 year old in the big-screen retelling of the classic Dr. Seuss book.

ZAC EFRON DROPS CONDOM ON RED CARPET: REPORT

While Efron was willing to admit to the embarrassing blunder, he did not give any information about who he might have been planning to use the condom with. The 24-year-old actor was in a long-term relationship with his “High School Musical” co-star Vanessa Hudgens until the end of 2010. Most recently, he has been linked to Taylor Swift, who also lent her voice to “The Lorax.” However, the pair has denied that they are involved.

Efron told Elle magazine in 2009 that his mom had bought him an entire supply of condoms after he and then-girlfriend Hudgens were snapped looking at what appeared to be sex toys in a store.

“My stocking was full of condoms this Christmas,” Efron said at the time. “She buys me the economy box.”
