Jesse Malin gathers rock royalty for debut gig

Jesse Malin — the Queens-born singer-songwriter who’s played with Bruce Springsteen and Ryan Adams — drew some rock royalty to Bowery Electric the other night to hear his new band, St. Mark’s Social. The entire Green Day group was there with DJ Paul Sevigny and designer John Varvatos. “The club is so intimate that while Moby played guitar onstage on a cover of the Stooges’ ‘1970,’ the rest of the band joined in from the audience,” said a witness. Green Day was in town for their Broadway musical, “American Idiot,” which opens next month, and for last night’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
