James McAvoy blasted for bulimia remark

Actor James McAvoy has been slammed for joking about the eating disorder bulimia, The Sun reported Monday.

Officials at the National Centre for Eating Disorders in the UK blasted the Scotsman for his insensitive remarks.

The “Atonement” actor made the gaffe while talking about his role in the upcoming “Wanted” sequel.

Having bulked up for the first film, in which he starred alongside Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman, McAvoy said he was not looking forward to a repeat performance of the grueling gym sessions.

He said: “I might go skinny for the next film – he’s a bulimic assassin, he vomits after killing.

“No matter what the script says, I think I’m gonna play the second film like he’s in dire need of therapy. And I think he might’ve stopped eating!”

The charity’s spokesperson said: “It is a sad misrepresentation which could lead people to think bulimia is socially acceptable.”
