Russell Brand says that he “still loves” estranged wife Katy Perry, who he calls “such a beautiful human being.”
While the British comedian filed for divorce from Perry on Dec. 30, he opens up about his feelings for his ex during an appearance “Ellen” set to air today.
“Me and Katy got divorced. I still love her as a human being,” Brand tells Ellen DeGeneres in a somber segment. “But, sometimes when you’re in a relationship I suppose it doesn’t work out, does it? But that doesn’t mean I regret it or anything. I was very happy to be married with her. She’s such a beautiful human being and I just have only love and positivity for her.”
DeGeneres didn’t have to prompt Brand to offer more. He soon continued, “You can’t absolutely make everything the way you want it to be in life. Sometimes things are just different and then you just move with that and try and remain in contact with what is beautiful about yourself and each other with any situation.”
When DeGeneres offered that Perry is an “amazing person,” Brand affirmed, “Yes, she is.”

While Brand was recently linked to David Hasselhoff’s ex, Anouska De Georgiou, Perry appears to have moved on too. After a flirtation with male model Baptiste Giabiconi earlier this year, Perry was seen kissing Florence + the Machine guitarist Robert Ackroyd at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival last month. The two were later seen getting cozy at the Chateau Marmont.
A source claimed to Grazia magazine that news of Perry’s new relationship left Brand feeling that he “gave up on their relationship too easily.”
Meanwhile, Brand opted to unfollow his former wife on Twitter earlier this week.
