Soledad O’Brien shoots for bigger role on Billboard show

Soledad O’Brien hosted Billboard’s Women in Music event Tuesday afternoon, but sources tell us the former CNN journalist is in talks to have a bigger role in the awards presentation.

We hear O’Brien is in late-stage discussions with Billboard for a larger development deal to expand the event into a TV special.

O’Brien left CNN in February, shortly after Jeff Zucker took over the network, and formed her own production company, Starfish Media Group.

In less than a year, O’Brien has struck deals with HBO, Al Jazeera America, National Geographic and her old stomping ground CNN. Billboard honored Pink and Janelle Monáe at its annual event, which was held at Capitale in New York.
