Celeb fotog busted for rent scam

Celebrity shutterbug Michael Tammaro has photographed a who’s who of famous faces, including Sting, Kate Bosworth, Calvin Klein, Tina Fey, Kristen Stewart, Abigail Breslin, Julianna Margulies and Courteney Cox. Now he has his own mug shot, courtesy of the NYPD. He’s been busted for allegedly swindling more than $62,000 from respondents to his Craigslist ad to rent his two-bedroom apartment on West 20th Street, Post police bureau chief Jamie Schram reports. “He’s a real con artist,” said a source. “He did it once and saw how easy it was and it started snowballing.” Tammaro would allegedly cash rent checks, then tell tenants they couldn’t move in and refused to give back the money. He allegedly gave one a set of keys that didn’t work and told another they’d have to wait because his father had died. Police busted Tammaro on Aug. 30 for stealing $10,000 from one victim, but a judge released him without bail. On Monday he surrendered at the 10th Precinct and was arrested for grand larceny related to seven more victims, including one who handed over a check for $25,000. He is now at Rikers Island unable to make $100,000 bail. His lawyer Lori Cohen said, “He made a series of bad decisions . . . And now he wants to do the right thing and pay back the money.”
