Ann Curry almost made an appearance at the Emmy Awards — poking fun at “Today” during a sketch with the cast of ABC’s “Modern Family” — until NBC brass spiked it, Page Six has exclusively learned. The sketch involved a “Today”-style cast backlash against the sitcom’s youngest actress, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, who plays Lily Tucker-Pritchett. At the end, Ed O’Neill, who plays Jay Pritchett, speaks to someone off camera about recasting her. The camera pulls back to see him speaking with “Hangover” star Ken Jeong wearing a dark wig. But sources told us the original concept was to have Curry play the recasted Lily. We’re told the sketch would have seen O’Neill telling Curry: “You’d be perfect . . . you’ve had some experience at this . . . ” with the camera pulling back to show the former “Today” co-host seated with him. “Ann was totally game,” a source said. But, “The idea went to NBC Universal CEO Steve Burke, who then kicked it to NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt, who nixed it.” An NBC rep says that Burke and Greenblatt were not involved.”
