Russell Brand on Katy Perry divorce: ‘we were incompatible’

In a strange alternate universe where mountain bikers and Eastern mystics could find love and meth heads and tennis pros could get along, Russell Brand and Katy Perry would still be happily married. Or, at least that’s what the comedian has theorized about his split with his ex-wife.

Nine months after they separated, Brand opens up just like Brand would about why his marriage to Perry didn’t last. He candidly explained that he sensed “incompatibility” while he was with his pop star ex.

“Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it don’t, but if you sort of sense there’s an incompatibility, then in any relationship regardless of the status of the individual, it kind of is best to go separate ways,” he said to Australia’s 60 Minutes.

Then, in true wacky fashion, the “Get Him to the Greek” actor continued about why people with similar interests have the best shot at a long-lasting relationship.

“I think if you’re someone who’s really into mountain biking, it would be good to go out with someone else who’s into mountain biking, and if you’re really into Eastern mysticism, go out with someone else who into Eastern mysticism.”

He then offered this nugget of wisdom: “I think if you’re a devoted tennis professional and you get married to a crystal meth addict, you might have trouble. I’ve been in a lot of trouble.”

Brand and Perry were married for just over a year. The comedian has been recently linked to Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, while Perry has been spotted canoodling with crooner John Mayer.
