“Star Trek” and “Lost” guru J.J. Abrams was named the director of the next “Star Wars” film yesterday, but Hollywood insiders were buzzing about some of the other options Lucasfilm producers had in mind. According to reports, “Argo” director Ben Affleck was in contention for the job, and a source tells us others high up on the list included “The Dark Knight” director Christopher Nolan, as well as David Fincher, Michael Bay, Steven Soderbergh and Jon Favreau. Sniffed the source: “J.J. was actually farther down the list.” The Hollywood insider added that some of the other directors had actually passed on the “Star Wars” gig, making way for Abrams to get the job.
