Director David O. Russell lit up on the red carpet at his “American Hustle” premiere when he saw the 1010 WINS microphone in the hand of radio reporter Joan Jedell.
In his best announcer’s voice, Russell — a born-and-bred New Yorker — intoned the station’s classic tag line, “You give us 22 minutes, we’ll give you the world.”
He features the station in the ’70s-set movie’s opening scene.
“I grew up listening to 1010 WINS every day,” Russell explained. “I have such great memories of [my father] shaving in the bathroom every morning, listening to 1010 WINS, that I just had to include it in the film.”
