Bernie Madoff makes it to screen

A highly anticipated documentary on crooked hedge-funder Bernie Madoff, directed by Victor Kubicek and Derek Anderson, will make it to the screen at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. The duo, who also produced “Terminator Salvation,” had been working on the Madoff doc “In God We Trust” since 2010. But the team had to re-edit scenes as breaking news events surrounding the Madoff story — including the suicide of the disgraced banker’s son, Andrew — repeatedly forced them back to the editing room. The film debuts April 19 and will include a Q&A with Madoff’s former secretary Eleanor Squillari, who gave lengthy interviews. We also hear there will be a private VIP dinner to fete the film at Buddakan. Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal’s festival kicks off unoffically with Vanity Fair’s star-studded bash on the State Supreme Court steps Tuesday, the night before rock-doc “Mistaken for Strangers” opens Tribeca. A restoration of Martin Scorsese’s “The King of Comedy” was chosen to close the American Express-sponsored fest April 27.
