Rihanna’s shoes offend during UK ‘X Factor’ appearance

LONDON — Wild pop star Rihanna wore shoes daubed with offensive language, live on the UK’s “The X Factor” Sunday night.

The Caribbean singer, 23, shocked the studio audience with her outrageous footwear on the family show, which was broadcast pre-watershed.

The superstar — who was asked to tone it down from her raunchy act in last year’s final — tricked show bosses by wearing a prim plaid dress.

But the words “F–k off” were spotted in close-up shots after she sang on the show, which was watched by millions of children.

Fans in the front row of the studio gasped and pointed. Tamzin Lewis, 19, said, “They should have known she’d do something like that.”

Rihanna, who currently has the No. 1 spot in the UK singles chart with “We Found Love,” was asked for a more demure performance after her scantily-clad routine last year. But apart from the rude shoes, the performance saw her lurching around and flashing her stocking tops as she mimed the hit single.

The $158 shoes were a collaboration between the Indian-born London designer Ashish Gupta and the British rock ‘n’ roll footwear brand Underground. They are decorated with gold studs and come with a white pen to add your own designs.

A show spokesman said, “There were no close-up shots of Rihanna’s shoes. We believe the performance was suitable.”
