Jessica Biel’s biggest rival isn’t Cameron Diaz, who dated her boyfriend Justin Timberlake for nearly four years — according to her it is Anne Hathaway.

She tells the December issue of Elle, “There’s a million [roles] that get away,” Biel said. “[Actors are] gluttons for punishment. It’s just rejection.”

Biel recounts that she desperately wanted to be Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s Batman tale, “The Dark Knight Rises.” The actress thought she’d have a leg up since she dressed as the feline villainess in a scene in “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry” in 2007. But the role went to Academy Award nominee Hathaway.

“I was gutted. I mean, to work with Christopher Nolan in that kind of a role…” Biel said trailing off.

Next, Biel dreamed a dream of starring in the upcoming adaptation of “Les Miserables.” But again, Hathaway got the role.

Biel says, “I felt terrified when I auditioned for ‘Les Miserables,’ the movie that Tom Hooper is doing. I was terrified to sing in front of him. I auditioned for Fantine and I sang ‘I Dreamed a Dream.’ I didn’t get it. And I would have loved it.”

But Biel also has some sour grapes with Rachel McAdams. Apparently, Biel also auditioned for the lead role in the romantic classic, “The Notebook.”

“That’s one that I wanted so badly,” remembers Biel. “I was in the middle of shooting ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre,’ and I auditioned with Ryan Gosling in my trailer—covered in blood. [Director] Nick Cassavetes put me through the wringer in an interesting, excitingly creative way.”

It’s impossible to know why Biel didn’t get these roles, but she did advance a strange theory two years ago in Allure — that she’s simply too good looking for most roles. “It really is a problem,” she said. “I have to be blunt.”

With that attitude, who wouldn’t want to cast her?
