Barneys creative ambassador Simon Doonan has a moneygrabbing e-mail imposter. Some notable New Yorkers received an e-mail Monday from an AOL address, purporting to be from the fashion guru and asking for $2,450. “[W]e had to be in Philippines for Tour . . . we misplaced our wallet and cell phone on our way back to the hotel . . . The wallet contained all the valuables we had. Now, our passport is in custody of the hotel management pending when we make payment,” it said, before asking for a “short term loan from you ($2,450) . . . [to] sort our hotel bills and get my sorry self back home . . . I promise to refund it in full as soon as I return.” We’re glad to report that Doonan is safe and well in Palm Beach.
