One-time heavyweight contender Gerry Cooney has hung up his boxing gloves for golf clubs. The “Great White Hope,” who lost to Larry Holmes in the ’80s for the title, talked of his new passion at length at the Knicks-Nets game Wednesday night. “It’s great playing a sport where you don’t get hit in the head,” he said. Cooney said he had a tee time set for Thursday in New Jersey. He was there among other boldface names, including former Knick great Patrick Ewing, SI swimsuit models Jessica Gomes and Damaris Lewis, John McEnroe, Victor Cruz, Mike D of the Beastie Boys, Steve Schirripa, John Leguizamo, Miri Ben-Ari, Rev Run, Spike Lee and Swizz Beatz.
