Rufus Wainwright: synchronized singer

He’s not famed for his talents under water, but Rufus Wainwright took time from his honeymoon to perform with some synchronized swimmers at Hearst Castle in California over the weekend. Wainwright, who married longtime boyfriend Jorn Weisbrodt in the Hamptons in August, sang at the Hearst Castle Preservation Foundation benefit titled Caballero’s Fiesta. After a performance by swimming group The Unsinkbles, fitted out in nectarine Jantzen swimsuits, guests were invited to join them in the famed Neptune Pool, and Wainwright (along with his muscular new hubby in a fetching red Speedo) were some of the first to dive in. Jay McInerney, who with wife Anne Hearst helped plan the event to raise money to restore more than 25,000 artworks at the castle, which was donated to the state in 1958, told us: “Everybody drank too much as usual and thankfully the unsinkable didn’t happen — nobody drowned or got lost in the castle. After the synchronized swimmers performed, a few of the guests got in the pool and had a go. Rufus was certainly the most graceful. He’s got a lot of good moves.” Guests included Amanda Hearst, Patrick McMullan, Sharon Bush, Frances Hayward,
Jefery Levy, Jim Signorelli of “SNL,” Joe Lonsdale and Robert and Geoff Bloomingdale.
