Sue Simmons was spotted at the Café Carlyle Monday to see jazz player Steve Tyrell’s opening night — but the air nearly turned blue when a waiter greeted the former WNBC anchor by mistakenly saying, “Welcome Mrs. Scarborough!” (Then again, 32 years on air with Chuck Scarborough could almost be considered common-law marriage.) Regis Philbin was there and told Simmons he misses watching her on the news, while Joan Collins was seen entering the club in a silver coat with Nikki Haskell stopping to greet Reeg, then gliding regally to her table. Spies say the “Dynasty” diva “looked down, all shy” when Tyrell mentioned her from the stage, and no fewer than three men jumped up to escort her to the lavatory, including, a spy sniffed, “two at her table and one who worked at the club to show the way and fight the crowds off.” Former “Real Housewife” Jill Zarin, meanwhile, arrived with her own photographer. (“That was a first at the Carlyle,” quipped one of the room’s vets.) Leading a standing ovation for Tyrell, who performed the Sammy Cahn Songbook, at the end of the night were Hoda Kotb, Rosanna Scotto, Aviva Drescher and AXS TV’s Rob Shuter.
